Dr. Truly’s Offer

For the past ten years, Dr. David Truly, professor of Geography at Central Connecticut State University, has been studying retiree and expatriate migration to Mexico and the many impacts – both positive and negative – to the Lakeside area. He has given lectures at LCS and around the Lakeside community and is very concerned about the future of our little piece of paradise. In order to understand the many concerns and needs of this community, he wants to reach as many residents (part or full- time) and visitors as possible.

So, he has made a very generous offer: For every one of his surveys that is completed and submitted either online or in person at LCS, he will donate five pesos toward the LCS Student Aid Fund.

This money comes from a research grant and he has pledged up to $1000 if we can collect 2000 surveys. He has already collected 200 plus from LCS so please click on the site below and get started filling out the questionnaire right NOW! Make sure you put LCS in the comment section at the end of the on-line survey so that Dr. Truly knows it goes to the Student Fund. You can also fill out a paper copy and drop it off at the LCS in the coffee area if you prefer.

Medical Survey
Can you take 3-5 minutes to complete an anonymous online survey with 16 short multiple-choice questions? As you may know, the U.S. Census Bureau no longer conducts systematic surveys on the medical status of expats. Toward this end, Ian del Conde, M.D., with the Departments of Medicine of the Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham & Women's Hospital, is associated with a group focused on international medicine, and would greatly appreciate your time to complete this survey.

BUDDY SYSTEMS / TELEPHONE REASSURANCE PROGRAM

As we grow older, we sometimes experience unexpected health issues. A LCS task force has been formed with the title L.I.F.E. to first determine the need for and then organize a "Buddy" call system . A telephone reassurance program would involve a volunteer "Buddy" to make a daily telephone call to a person's home to ensure he/she is alright. This can be a set time each day that is convenient for the "buddy" and the person. If the "buddy" is unable to reach the person by telephone, the caller would contact a pre-designated person if desired and /or emergency medical services.

At this point we are only trying to determine the population who may want to use this volunteer service. We will be soliciting volunteers and establishing guidelines once we establish the extent of the need.
