It is with deep regret that LCS announces the death of long time LCS friend and Lifetime Member Ektor (Hector) Carranza, 24 June 1932 - 5 June 2010. Our hearts go out to his life-partner of 43 years, Tod Johnson, and to his family and many friends. He will be missed.

There are new Immigration Laws as of 1 May 2010. Here is some initial information on the changes and how they will affect expats.

UPDATE: On July 13, the cost of a U.S. passport for an adult will go from $100 to $135, including a $25 administrative fee. There are other increases as well and you can find a complete list of the fees is at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/fees/fees_5079.html.

The Audit Committee Year End Report for 2009 has been posted. The Board is preparing a response that will also be posted (beneath this report) in the next month or so.

The Board of Directors has released a Financial Update including preliminary information on the status of the year end audit.

The Board of Directors usually meet on the 2nd Thursday at 10:30 am. There is a change this month only, and the next meeting will be held 22 July, 2010.

The minutes for the March Board meetings are posted now.

Great Books   If you are interested in being on a waiting list for a year around Great Books group, or interested in starting a snowbird/sunbird part time Great Books group, please sign up at the LCS Membership Desk.

Membership fees are now being prorated throughout the year. Check the Join Now page for a list of the new costs. We have volunteers on duty Mon-Sat from 10-2 in the LCS Services Office to help you.

NOTE If you pay with PayPal, you will need to come to LCS with your printed receipt, to get your picture taken and pick up your new card.

An announcement from the US Consulate in Guadalajara: New Law Makes Absentee Voting Easier for Overseas Americans.

Crime Survey available at LCS   A survey instrument produced by the Secretaria de Seguridad Publico Estado Jalisco, Department of Statistics and Crime Policy, entitled "Victimization Survey," is now available at LCS. Please turn them into the office. It is important for all victims of crime here at Lakeside fill out the survey.

The survey is also available here in PDF form. Print the PDF, and mail or have someone bring the completed form to the LCS office.

LCS Announces New Facility Use Fees

At the Nov. Board Meeting new rates were approved to lower fees for Not For Profit Groups using LCS Grounds and new fees were approved by the LCS Board for LCS members renting the grounds for Weddings, Holiday Parties and other Special Events! Click here for details.
